This is the big decision you have to make when planning a new lawn for your garden. Seed or turf? Each method has its pros and cons, and the choice depends on factors like how much money can you spend on it or how soon or fast do you want or need it.
SEEDED LAWN
PROS:
ECONOMY
This is the most economical way of getting a new lawn. Don’t fall into temptation of buying the cheapest grasses, though.
GRASSES CONTROL
When you buy the grass seeds you will get exactly what you want and suits your climate and needs.
EASE OF PLANTING
Physically is easier to seed a lawn than setting the turf, especially if you have a large garden.
CONS:
SETTLING SPEED
It will take weeks until one can step the new lawn and month to regular use.
EARLY CARE
You need to protect the seeds with a net against birds and seedlings can be destroyed by bad weather or mistreatment. Furthermore, weeds can become a serious problem during new lawn settling.
TURF LAWN
PROS:
SPEED
It will take usually just one day to install it being able to bear stepping almost immediately.
RESISTANCE
Freshly laid turf is much less vulnerable to parasites, diseases and destruction than newly seeded lawn, because its roots fixes into the soil much faster.
INSTANT
Well, you know what I mean.
CONS:
COST
Turf lawn is much more expensive than seeded lawn.
EFFORT
Storage, transport and laying are difficult and tiring.
TIMING
Turf must be laid in the same day it arrives. If impossible, must be unrolled and watered to keep moisture.
TYPE OF GRASS CONTROL
You have to trust the word of the turf vendor on this one.
